about the artist
After various art study programs, Ally worked as a graphic artist for CBS affiliates and then for NBC affiliates. Certified in Photoshop for digital graphics, she continues an appreciation for the hands-on way of creating art. As an independent designer, most of her work attests to her preference to "get her hands in the paint."
about the technique
Much of the artwork presented on this site is a technique called Batique color wash. It is a non-digital style with many steps. Starting with a Vellum paper, the artist uses graphite pencil followed by multiple layers of various colors of paint. On top of this is laid a layer of black India ink that, upon drying, is partially washed away. As in other Batique processes that use melted wax, the fun in this artist's work is never knowing completely how the resulting art work will turn out.
In the artist's words, "I learned the Batique color wash technique in my college art class and enjoyed it so much I decided to make it my specialty once I became a freelance designer."
